Novvi Becomes Renewable Engine Oil Supplier of Sonoma Raceway

Novi-LogoSonoma Raceway will team with Novvi, LLC this race season, as the Emeryville-based company supplies the raceway with its latest line of biodegradable and renewable lubricants.

Novvi Engine Oil, a high-performance oil sourced from plant sugars, is a drop-in replacement for traditional lubricating oils, but is derived from renewable resources. Novvi Engine Oil will be used in all raceway fleet vehicles. It is currently used in the two-stroke and four-stroke vehicles at the Simraceway Performance Driving Center, the driving school located at Sonoma Raceway, including the highest performance Lola open-wheel race cars. Novvi Air Compressor Oil and Hydraulic Fluid will also be used in equipment throughout the facility.

(April, 2013) – At Speedway Motorsports, Inc., (NYSE:TRK) going green doesn’t just mean the drop of the flag, it is a companywide commitment to reducing material use, recycling materials, tires and oil, improving air and water quality and decreasing energy and water consumption. In fact, SMI’s Green Globe program, launched in 2011, is delivering a dramatic improvement in the company’s environmental track-print.

SMI operates eight of the country’s largest sporting facilities, including Atlanta Motor Speedway in Atlanta, GA; Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN; Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC; Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CA; Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, KY; Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, NV; New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH; Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, TX.

Sonoma Raceway Hosts Climate Protection Campaign for High-Speed Fun

SONOMA, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2012) – Sonoma Raceway hosted nearly 30 local business leaders for a quarterly meeting of the Climate Protection Campaign on Thursday.

The raceway, which is a sponsor of the Climate Protection Campaign, utilized the event to highlight its own sustainable efforts, including a 1,700-panel Panasonic solar installation, as well as the recently-unveiled Sustainable Performance Ranking Metric. The Climate Protection Campaign works to inspire, align, and mobilize action in response to the climate crisis. It partners with business, government, youth and the broader community to advance practical, science-based solutions for significant greenhouse gas emission reductions.

“It was exciting for the Climate Protection Campaign to host their meeting here today, and we always like exploring unlikely or surprising subjects, like the raceway. We encourage all businesses to do what they can, and it’s great to see that the raceway is making a difference and promoting its green efforts,” said Barry Vesser, deputy director for the Climate Protection Campaign. “Business is the driver of innovation, so getting businesses together and developing policies that make sense for business and the environment is the best path forward.”

Raceway Sonoma and NASCAR Plant 58 Trees at Vacaville Public Schools

SONOMA, Calif. (Oct, 12, 2012) – Four Vacaville public schools will be a bit more “green,” thanks to the raceway in Sonoma and NASCAR.

Fifty-eight trees were donated to the Vacaville Unified School District through “NASCAR Green Clean Air” — an initiative that neutralizes all the carbon produced by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events. The trees will be distributed between Markham Elementary School, Orchard Elementary School, Browns Valley Elementary School and Vacaville High School.

“This is a terrific initiative from NASCAR and we’re delighted to participate,” said Steve Page, president and general manager of the raceway in Sonoma. “We look forward to watching these trees grow and becoming part of the campus environment in Vacaville.”

A ceremonial planting of three live trees was held on Friday at Markham Elementary School, and was attended by Vacaville Unified School District Superintendent John Niederkorn, Markham Elementary School Principal Manolo Garcia, Buckeye Nursery’s Kim Bertotti, raceway representatives and several students.

Yokohama’s Orange Oil Technology Tire Featured at WTCC Weekend

SONOMA, Calif. (XXXX) — Yokohama Tire Corporation’s orange oil technology will be on full display at the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) event at the raceway in Sonoma, Sept. 21-23.

This will mark the first-ever visit to the United States by the WTCC, which is a global race series with stops in exotic locales such as Italy, Brazil, Macau, Morocco and Japan. This is the ninth stop on the series’ 12-tour schedule for 2012.

All 22 cars on the WTCC starting grid will be fitted with Yokohama tires featuring its revolutionary orange oil technology. The technology is used in the company’s ADVAN®ENV-R2™ tires. The race tires combine orange oil, natural rubber and other renewable materials to improve the performance characteristics in the tire.

KleenSpeed EVX-11 sets EV Lap Record at SONOMA RACEWAY

SONOMA, California … Sept. 7, 2012

KleenSpeed Technologies, Inc. took the all-electric scrambls / KleenSpeed EVX-11 racecar to SONOMA Raceway and established a benchmark track record for electric vehicles on Friday, September 7 at the 2nd annual Accelerating Sustainable Performance Summit in Sonoma.

In a four lap record run the scrambls / KleenSpeed EVX-11 posted a top time of 1 minute, 35.99 seconds over the 12-turn, 2.52-mile Sonoma Valley road course, which equates to an average speed of 93.75 miles per hour. It reached a top speed of 130 mph. Kevin Mitz, of Kevin Mitz Motorsports was in the cockpit for the record run.

“I really consider this my home track and the car really felt good today. The KleenSpeed powertrain is really amazing and the torque characteristics are very different from a conventional engine. This makes the EVX-11 a very unique, and fast, racecar.”

Raceway Discusses State of Sustainable Racing at Upcoming Summit

The State of Sustainable Racing will be examined at the 2nd annual Accelerating Sustainable Performance Summit at the raceway in Sonoma, Friday, Sept. 7.

The summit brings together industry leaders from the business, motor sports, engineering, research and media communities to explore prospects for sustainable automotive development and performance. The event spans from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Simraceway Performance Driving Center at the raceway.

The raceway, along with Dominican University California’s Green MBA program, examined 16 case studies in alternative fuel and electric racing. Some of the race series studied include the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, IZOD IndyCar® Series, American Le Mans Series (Michelin Green X Challenge), National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) and more.
